Meet Lance

Lance Sotelo, born on October 3rd, 2000, in Dalton, Georgia, was raised by his parents, Jeanne and Chuy Sotelo, along with his two older sisters, Emily Walker and Gabby Sotelo. In Lance’s younger years, he was not interested in running; he loved arts and crafts, Cartoon Network, Minecraft, YouTube, and funky hats. Chuy and Jeanne enrolled Lance in football, wrestling, and taekwondo. Although he excelled in all three, he soon discovered during practice that he had more stamina than most children and profound joy while running.

That is when a fire ignited in Lance. A passion that he would chase and follow until the very end.

Lance started running at events like Special Steps, I like to MOO’ve it, Turkey Trot, and Silver Bell Sprint. He soon made Dalton’s Cross Country and Track and Field team, where he would be able to proudly hang more medals, plaques, certificates, and bibs on his bedroom wall. This is also where he’d meet a group of lifelong friends and teammates: Karen Jacobo, Riya Patel, Betsy Perez, and Andrea Magaña.

After graduating from Dalton High School, Lance continued his journey to Charlotte, NC, where he attended and ran at Queen’s University on a Cross Country and Track and Field scholarship. Charlotte was a place that allowed him to thrive and evolve, a place where he finally felt at home in his own skin. He met so many people, making impacts on their lives and leaving an impression on everyone he made contact with. It is where he also go on to meet his partner, James Holt, and “soul mate,” Madi Webster.

He was a bright light and fresh breath of air to be around. He was always there to listen without judgment and has an undying love for everyone he meets. He is able to turn tears of sorrow into tears of joy and discouragement into motivation.

Lance always wanted to make a change. He did this by inspiring others to be their true genuine selves on and off the track. He stayed true to himself while always bettering himself each and every day.
